This novel is the sequel of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland written by Charles Lutwidge Dodgson better known by the pseudonym Lewis Carroll. As a writer he is known for his facility at word play, logic, and fantasy.
The reason for me quoting this story is that I just got to know about a tiny shop called Of Cabbages & Kings. I don’t think the owner Jessica could have picked a more suitable name for her business. This tiny shop is packed with curiosities, made by independent designers; button-headpins, ceramic cartons, knitted cushions, handmade cards, sweet knickers, the list is endless.

Sitatet over er fra historien om The Walrus and The Carpenter fra romanen Through the Looking-Glass and What Alice Found There.

Once a month during this spring Jessica has organized the Of Cabbages & Kings Art & Design Market, where she invites different designers and makers to come trade. I was lucky to attend last weekend’s market with my yarn stall, and I was impressed with the creativity and style showed by the participants. Just look at all the cool stuff I found, and the pictures only show a small collection of what was there. Next to my stall on the left was the stall of a lovely girl, Emily. She designs and makes hand printed cushions, lampshades, lavender bags and tea towels. Showing her work is the picture showing the black and white lamp standing on a basket, with her cushions, storage baskets, and lavender bags. On my right was the stall of Crème Anglaise that has the most beautiful children’s clothes, and those cute space cushions and finger doll you can see on the pictures. I know Consumer Revolt from working at Spitalfields Market, where I’ve admired Daley’s hand pulled screenprints before. I actually told him that I want to decorate my whole house with his work, my favourites is his deer print that you can see on the picture, and the bicycle series which doesn’t show that well on the picture but that are really cool, just so you know. The ceramic cartons are from Of Cabbages & Kings’ own stall, and the incredible fancy moose plate is from Jimbob Art’s stall.

The market is to continue, inviting loads of different designers and makers with tons of creativity like those shown by the small selection I have here. It is scheduled to happen on the following dates Saturday 3rd & 4th of July, and on Saturday 14th & Sunday 15th of August. So if you happen to be in London it is really worth a visit!
